L. Ron Hubbard established the Writers of the Future Contest in 1983 to publish aspiring science fiction authors. All winning stories are published by Galaxy Press in the annual Writers of the Future Anthology.

L. Ron Hubbard (March 13, 1911-January 24, 1986) was an American novelist and founder of the Church of Scientology. Before founding the Church of Scientology, he authored over 300 short stories and novels.
